Self-Driving Vehicle In Istanbul

İstanbul Electric Tramway and Tunnel Establishments (IETT) has introduced their new self-driving public transport vehicle in the “International Smart Grids and Smart Cities Congress 18” that was held in Istanbul. Organized in the Avrasya (Eurasia) Congress and Arts Center, the ceremony was blessed with the honouring of both cabinet minister Özlü and İstanbul Governor Vasip Şahin, Mayor of İstanbul Mevlüt Uysal and former primer minister of Spain, Jose Luis Rodriguez Zapatero.

Minister Özlü has implied that the new smart grid implementation is the future of governorship. Özlü said that self-driving cars are a vital process in the shift towards digitalization and that the digital town concept is a present truth as not only people and gadgets but also cities are in the way of digitalizing. They is why the transformation to digital cities is imperative in terms of Turkey’s future as a technology and advanced industry hub.

Self-Driving Vintage Tram

The self-driving vehicle created by İETT is a retro-looking land vehicle which runs on electricity. The self-driving vehicle has the nostalgic design of a light-rail train. Mayor Uysal has said that this vehicle has been transformed from an actual former Beyoğlu tram into an electric car. Uysal has implied humbly that they do not aim to compete with Tesla Motors, but this project is nevertheless a fine step for the İstanbul municipality. Uysal underlined that their aim is to provide better services with the cooperation of universities, private institutions and the city government.
