What İs The Employment Situation İn The Housing Sector?

Employment is declining in the real estate, housing and construction sectors. The Turkish Statistical Institute (TUİK) announced the data for the construction labor input index for the January-March period. According to TUIK 's January – March data, employment in the construction sector decreased by 3.5 percent in the first quarter while the number of hours worked decreased by 3.6 percent in the same period.

According to the data, seasonally adjusted construction employment index decreased by 3.5 percent in the first quarter of 2017 compared to the previous quarter. The calendar-adjusted construction employment index also declined by 12.6 percent compared to the same quarter of the previous year.

In addition, the seasonal and calendar-adjusted construction hours worked index declined by 3.6 percent in the first quarter of 2017 compared to the previous quarter. The calendar-adjusted construction hours worked index declined by 13.1 percent compared to the same quarter of the previous year.

The seasonally adjusted gross wage and salary index declined by 0.4 percent in the first quarter of 2017 compared to the previous quarter. The calendar-adjusted gross wage and salary index increased by 1.1 percent compared to the same quarter of the previous year.
