The number of housing units sold in the first 8 months of the year increased by 7.68 percent compared to the same period of 2016, reaching 890 thousand 430. Sector representatives welcomed the sales and stated that they will break new record at the end of the year.
According to the data released by the Turkish Statistical Institute (TURKSTAT), 890 thousand 430 houses were changed hands during January-August period. The first eight months of sales increased by 7.68 percent compared to the same period last year.
The number of houses sold in August increased by 4.75 percent compared to the same period of 2016.
Housing sales made by foreigners also increased significantly. Sales increased by 8.97 percent in 8 months compared to last year, while net sales increased by 11.38 percent compared to the same month last year.
In August thousand 684, 8 of a total of 13 thousand 5 houses were sold to foreigners.
Sector representatives stated that sales will increase further in the coming months and that sales figures made this month are news of new records.
"State support is important"
Özyurtlar Holding Chairman Tamer Özyurt stated that August figures show that the sector continues to be active and that "the successive months of increase figures continue to give them morale.
Özyurt said that besides being a safe investment vehicle for the house, the support given by the state sector has a great influence on the outcome of these results.
"If this support continues, we can say that in terms of domestic and foreign investors, as an investment vehicle, the attractiveness of the house and its contribution to growth in the economy will continue to increase in the forthcoming period." she said.
Cihan Construction Chairman Ertuğrul Yavuz Pala stated that the activity of the residential sales will continue and that the contribution of the sector as an economy will not slow down and that this contribution will continue to increase in the coming period.
