Bahçeşehir University Economic and Social Research Center (Bahçeşehir Üniversitesi Ekonomik ve Toplumsal Araştırmalar Merkezi – Betam), stated that the 2000 dollar increase which is the difference in the last year’s Gross National Income from previous one to new, caused by the increase of the data in construction sector.
Turkish Statistical Institute (Türkiye İstatistik Kurumu – TUIK) changed 2015’s 9 thousand 130 dollars amounting income per capita to 11 thousand 14 dollars with a revision made in one night.
The research notice “Difference Between Former and New GNI Series and the Reasons” (Eski ve Yeni GSYH serileri Arasındaki Farklar ve Nedenleri) written by Doc. Dr. Ozan Bakış from Betam reminds that the revision issued by TUIK was made in terms of SNA-2008 and ESA-2010 combability studies.
In the notice issued by Betam explained that since TUIK changed the national calculation system and there could be differences between old series and the new ones in terms of definitions, levels and rates, a detailed analysis was required to be able to understand the content and reasons of the changes made.
Betam explained the notice with these words: “When the former and new national income series compared, the biggest difference has been seen in investment expanses in general review. When it is come to specific view, the difference is caused by the construction sector. In 2015, in the new series the investment expenses are 300 billion higher than the previous one in terms of current price and 250 billion of this amount is because the construction sector investments.”
